I really don’t know where to start or how to start explaining the answers towards having a domain on my own. So, I decided to have these detailed wh-questions as titles to have the explanation specified than just writing a piece of crap. I thought that having this ‘about the domain’ page would make the site have a deeper meaning than just giving a name tag to Jane Doe; a collar to a lost dog; (you know what I mean?) to let visitors know how I got to this domain name ♥ pinkroyalty.net ♥

Wordpress Noob

♥ how i happen to have a wordpress blog…

♥ blogtool » I have been skinning a lot of my old blogs at Blogger until I finally got bored with the dead-easy-to-install skins. I discovered Wordpress when I saw a lot of Wordpress-powered sites that are amazingly skinned and really, they caught all of my attention till there’s nothing left for myself! It has always been a dream of mine to be a web designer, so, yeah, most of my attention are focused on the themes, popularity, and customizability. Then I grew curious and always have I kept my blogging enthusiasm intact which led me to my daydreaming. I dreamed to have a domain on my own and it must definitely be powered by Wordpress.

♥ sites » I am (most of the time) a patient type of person who believes that you don’t have to rush everything especially, for the sake of learning. You should consider a lot of things like your precious time. So, for the sake of mastering the Wordpress-powered site structure and basic contents, I signed up to own a subdomain from mwahh.net, iheartyu.net, and prettychiq.net. Sadly, only one survived. Mwahh.net was hosted by o2g.net (which does not support free subdomain hosting anymore) and by the time my blog at caryl.mwahh.net was more progressive, o2g was experiencing server downtime which leads to the suspension of most blogs they hosted. A few days later, mwahh.net was closed and that includes all the subdomains and I was out of town by the time our host declared that and I was so unable to backup my posts and theme. On the other hand, caryl.iheartyu.net was working fine on my first day. I was able to upload files via FTP and manage the whole site. I asked my host to close the site due to some technical problems I encountered (I was not able to access the site after my first day).

♥ sites » Now, caryl.prettychiq.net is the only survivor (still up and running, and I don’t have any plans of giving it up). But it all ended up as a series of unfortunate events. First, caryl.mwahh.net got suspended, caryl.iheartyu.net was closed, and caryl.prettychiq.net was experiencing server downtime for almost 24 hours (but it got back on track after I joined *the contest*). And so, I panicked. I thought that the site prettychiq.net will also close.

♥ why do i want a domain…

Longing for a new cyberhome, I desperately joined a domain contest sponsored by Kisty @ princess-love.net. I followed the requirements and luckily, got accepted to be one of the contestants.

How

♥ how i got the domain…

More luckiness, I won the contest by garnering the highest votes with a total of 209 votes *per IP address.

♥ how i got the most votes…

It was made possible through tough friendly socializing skills, a massive amount of charisma, and lots of patience. I jumped from one social networking site (e.g. friendster, multiply, etc.) to another, blogs, websites, etc. Each site that I visit, I leave them some signatures stating something like “please vote for caryl at this domain contest… ” below will be the simple instructions to click ‘this’ and ‘that’. And let’s not forget the classics: “please do vote, your vote really matters. that’s all that i ask… plz plz plz, pretty please?”. Pretty cute, huh? Well, that’s life. No guts, no glory. I became as patient as ever so that I will piss no one off when (if ever) they’d ask, “why should we?” “how can we vote?” “what site is it again?” “what do i get in return? :))”.

Well, I couldn’t have done this without the people who voted for me in that contest. There are a few people who surely voted for me. They commented on my post when I was still managing my subdomain caryl.mwahh.net. Sincerely, thank you guys and gals! Some of my affies are my classmates, schoolmates, friends, online friends, friendster groups, friendster friends, my friendster friends’ textmates, everyone else’s textmates, and my nautical-twilight family.

♥ when did the domain contest end…

Kisty’s domain contest @ http://princess-love.net/visitors/domain-contest ended on May 14, 2008. It was said clearly that I should wait for her email so that we can discuss the details for purchasing the domain of my choice. While I was waiting, I’ve tried to think of what name should I give to my very own domain name. It was a big deal, actually.

I got a lot of ideas regarding my domain name. But there should be one word that was constant in every idea. Don’t guess, it’s the color pink. Yeah, here are some of the domain names I tried out and browsed around the web if they’re still available: think-pink, pink, pink-love, iluvpink, pinkislove, pinklover, uber-pink, superpink, sossy-pink, pinkpinkpink, pinkluxury, luxurious-pink, pinkprincess, pinkispunk, pnk, and dozens more.

I was proudly hosted by Irish @ babyl0ve.us. As far as I can remember our agreement, she will host me until this domain will expire which is by next year. Thanks Irish!
